For a city that never sleeps, New York seems very fond of hotels: more than 9,000 new rooms are expected this year alone. And with 56.4 million visitors expected in 2022 (85% of 2019 levels), the explosion in room numbers could not come at a better time. Manhattan’s Nomad, in particular, is the liveliest neighborhood. Emerging from the decadence of the late 20th century, the neighborhood north of Madison Square Park?bounded by Lexington Avenue, 6th Avenue, 30th Street, and 25th Street?has gained a reputation as one of the most promising in the city ??after the opening of Ace. Hotel in 2009 and Nomad Hotel in 2012. If we need more proof, the head of Amazon Jeff Bezos spent $80m (£65m) on several apartments at the top of a 24-story tower on Fifth Avenue in 2019, confirming that this is one of the most sought after areas in the city.

Nomad has now strengthened its reputation by opening a series of new hotels. The Johnston Building, built in 1903, is now the Ned No mad, a sister property to the elegant London hotel and its members’ club. The 250-room Ritz-Carlton New York, Nomad followed in July at a cost of $500m (£410m), while the Le Meridian New York, Fifth Avenue will open in August.

After ten years in the works, the Fifth Avenue Hotel will finally open its doors this fall in a meticulously restored building that dates back to 1907. The Aka Nomad Hotel, located on the corner of Madison Avenue, will welcome its invited in early November. Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Hotels will open its 38-story hotel at the corner of 29th Street and Broadway this winter. And finally, the AC Hotel New York Nomad – whose opening date is not yet confirmed – would be the tallest modular hotel in the world with 26.floors and 168 rooms. With rooms this attractive, sleeping can be all you want to do.
